OMG!!! Thank You!!! You do not know how useful this is to me!! Peeling Potatoes is one of the hardest things for me to do. I have had 8 surgery's on my hands and it hurts to peel potatoes. My husband use to always do it but since he passed, I just don't make them except for Holidays! I can taste the mashed potatoes already!

I always manage to cut myself when using a paring knife and scrap my fingers when using a peeler. this looks like it was meant for people like me

Ah yes, Dawn Wells. I noticed a comment on how good she looks and how youthful her hands still look. Must be all that pot she smoked, or the potato skins!
Seems like a long time to just prepare a potato, but it really is a neat idea!

The method is called blanching and shocking, it can be used for any vegetable/ fruit that you need to feel. Apples, Beets, Tomatoes, Peaches etc..

Re: The easiest way to peel a potato
I remember talking to a man whose parents were around in the depression....they would do this way of peeling potatoes because there was virtually NO WASTE as far as the actual potato peeling process has. You know what I mean? When you peel a potato there is a lot of the vegetable going into the garbage, but if you do it this way, there is NONE.

Re: The easiest way to peel a potato
I know, the potato really looked , and no waste at all! I could see where this would work for all kinds of things.
This would be good for people such as Cin_20 that has a hard time peeling potatoes. I think we all have a hard time, just not to that extent. Like you said, a lot of waste! If you try this before any of us, Cin, let us know, ok?
I was just kidding about Dawn Wells smoking potato peels...NOT!

Re: The easiest way to peel a potato
I remember doing this with tomatoes once when I was making stewed tomatoes...just a little hint though, with tomatoes you only have to stick them in the boiling water for about ten seconds!!! Then just rinse them off with tap water as cold as your tap goes. The peel then comes off real easy with a paring knife. Works like a charm. There really isn't much call to peel tomatoes though anymore, most people just deal with the peel.
