Well there is no more au gratin, and I hate instant mashed potatoes, but I guess I'll give these a chance, they are free after all..

you could use them for something other then the instant mashed potatoes. we used them to make friend chicken once. Didn't turn out TOO bad, but I am sure if you look it up, they can be turned into something delicious.

For the most part I'm skeptical of instant anything. I'm a culinary student, and I like to use fresh and real stuff as much possible, but you're right because I've heard of thing using instant potatoes like sourdough bread starters..

la vie, i have used instant potato flakes instead of flour when making my baked fried chicken. coat them in the potato flakes, egg wash, then cornflakes all smashed up.

and this was garlic flavored so even better!

I forgot to put it in here but I did sign up for the Au Gratin potatoes...in another site before coming here. And it was way this morning. I am still sick so I had to take a break every once and awhile. But it did say that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to come. Just in case anyone wants to know.
